The story
8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana serves Italian fine dining at Shop 202, 18 Chater Road in Central, Hong Kong, and holds three Michelin stars in the 2026 guide. The restaurant takes its name from Federico Fellini's 1963 film 8½, which chef Umberto Bombana chose as a tribute to the director.
Chef Umberto Bombana builds his menu on respect for honest cooking, good produce and attention to service. He pushes traditional Italian cuisine forward with playful inspiration. Guests who know his work call him "The King of White Truffles."
A spacious walk-in wine cellar holds more than 7,000 bottles and 1,800 labels of Old and New World wines. Many are poured by the glass as well as by the bottle, and the sommeliers help match each wine to the meal. Wine Spectator gave the restaurant its Best of Award of Excellence in 2016. The cocktail bar and lounge serves cocktails and first-class coffee.
