The story

Krietsch in Schwäbisch Gmünd: Swabian Country Cooking under a 14th-Century Vault

Krietsch, at Münstergasse 2 in Schwäbisch Gmünd, serves Swabian country cooking and is listed as Recommended in the Michelin Guide 2026. It occupies the oldest stone house beside the Holy Cross Minster.

Under the cross vault

The building dates to the 14th century, and the dining room keeps its cross vault, with 60 seats beneath it. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026 and singled out the imposing halls alongside the good cuisine. The restaurant also points to its wine cellar.

International Swabian cooking

Host Marcus Krietsch is a master chef who spent seven years as head chef at a Michelin-starred house. He describes the style as international Swabian, built mostly on regional produce. Küchenchef Marc Kümmerle runs the kitchen. A recent weekday lunch menu ran from borscht with corn-fed chicken breast to pan-fried zander with champagne cabbage and balsamic lentils.
