The story
Michels Stern, at Bahnhofstraße 9 in Marktbreit, is a Franconian inn whose country cooking earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026. The guesthouse also offers rooms for overnight stays.
Stefan and Wolfgang Michel took over in 2006 as the fourth generation. Stefan is a hotel business graduate with a passion for wine, and Wolfgang is a master chef. Guests are cooked for and served by the family. The main house was built as a farm in 1785 and traded for decades as "Zum Goldenen Stern".
The menu sets hearty Franconian dishes beside finer French-leaning classics. Sauerbraten comes with potato dumplings and red cabbage, and rosa gebratener Kalbsrücken (pink-roasted veal saddle) with parsley root. A winter offering is skrei, pan-fried skin-side down, with pea purée. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the kitchen 2 Kochlöffel in 2026 and singled out the Sauerbraten and a pink-roasted rack of lamb, served in a tavern room with wooden benches.
The list runs past 300 wines, all from leading Franconian growers. Desserts are homemade, among them a coconut muffin with passion fruit mousse and mango sorbet. There is also a semolina cream with rum-pot fruits and chocolate ice cream.
