The story
Landgasthof Kastanienbaum sits at Elvert 6 in Lüdinghausen, where a Westphalian kitchen meets the Münsterland countryside. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 1.5 Kochlöffel in 2026, and its notes describe Münsterland dishes such as broad beans with bacon and beef tongue with green sauce.
The menu follows the seasons, with asparagus, game, goose and chanterelles appearing when they are in season. Matjes is a regular feature. The kitchen describes its cooking as classic and modern at once, with traditional dishes alongside new ideas. Guests can choose from a buffet, a set menu, brunch or barbecue.
The dining room has antiques and wooden beams, a rustic setting that the guide picks out. In winter a fireplace warms the room, and in summer guests sit in the beer garden. The restaurant has operated in its current form since 1999. Catering and a food truck serve groups of 15 or more within 25 km.
