The story
Zur Glocke sits at Friedrich-von-Teck-Straße 12, Höchstädt an der Donau, and is listed in Dillingen an der Donau. The Michelin Bib Gourmand (2026) recognises its careful cooking at a fair price, and the kitchen works in a modern cuisine style built on fresh, regional produce.
Daniel Stoiber runs the kitchen and owns the house with his wife Gabi, a trained hotel business economist. He trained at the Bogenhausener Hof and at the starred restaurant of the Königshof hotel in Munich. The menu follows a seasonal fresh-cooking approach, with Mediterranean and exotic influences that were part of the restaurant's relaunch in 2004.
The main room combines exposed concrete, wood, glass and felt. A fireplace sits at its centre, with two wrought iron doors that close to a narrow gap, and the fire flickers in the evening. The Flaminarium, built where two bowling lanes once stood, seats up to 40 guests under gold, grey and brown tones. In summer, the courtyard Hofgarten seats 40 beneath a large chestnut tree, with the silhouette of the 16th-century Spitalkirche beyond the old wall.
Beyond the restaurant, the house offers catering, private dining and cooking classes. The Schlemmer Atlas awards it 2,5 Kochlöffel (2026) and credits the Stoiber couple with running it "with heart and mind." A 2019 extension added a ten-room hotel with lobby and breakfast lounge.
