The story
Die Traube is a Mediterranean restaurant at Rathausplatz 12 in Vallendar, listed as Recommended in the Michelin Guide for 2026. The kitchen cooks to the seasons, in a half-timbered house on the town's central square.
Stefan Schleier has been patron and chef de cuisine here since March 2001. He trained as a cook in Trier and later worked as demi chef saucier at Restaurant Tantris in Munich. On Sylt he cooked at Rauchfang in Kampen and at Restaurant Jörg Müller in Westerland. Anita Schleier trained in hotel service and worked in dining rooms from Lindau to Hotel Bareiss before joining him as patronesse.
The restaurant sits on a square with a fountain, and the Schlemmer Atlas gave it 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026. Its write-up speaks of the charm of the past running through the rooms in loving details. The building has been used as a restaurant again since 1986 and has been a Gasthaus since at least 1810. Outdoor seating suits the setting.
The wine list covers German and international wines. Chef Schleier also comes from a family of hoteliers, and his great-grandfather cooked on the Orient Express.
