The story
Restoran Vila Rova serves Croatian cooking at 28 Ulica Rova in Njivice, on the island of Krk. Gault&Millau awarded it 14 points in 2026, and the kitchen reinterprets the flavours of the Kvarner coast in a refined, simple style.
Chef Marin Pleše cooks with what grows and is pressed close to the restaurant. Purslane and other fresh herbs come from his own garden. The olive oil is a family product, and the dried black mushroom powder is gathered from the nearby Dubašljanska forest.
Guests choose between two tasting menus, "The Bridge" (the longer one) and "The Island," or a special menu called Krk on a plate. The meal opens with an acorn brioche served with honey and sea salt, followed by several kinds of bread. Marinated mussels come in a cold zucchini soup with pine nuts and a gel made from indigenous Žlahtina wine. The dessert is focaccia ice cream.
The wine list leans toward local and Croatian labels, with a selection from well-known wine regions abroad. Staff are friendly and professional throughout the property, from the reservation desk and reception to the dining room.
