The story
Bugenvila sits on Cavtat's waterfront at Put dr. Ante Starčevića 9, a Mediterranean restaurant that Michelin lists as Recommended for 2026 and Gault&Millau scored 14.5 the same year. The menu leans on oysters, grilled fish and Dalmatian wine, and the modern Mediterranean kitchen works Latin flavours into local produce.
The signature menu is by chef Eduardo de Ornelas. Gault&Millau credits cooks of Latin American origin with reshaping the kitchen, bringing a lighter hand to fresh local ingredients. Oysters from nearby Mali Ston remain central, now served alongside a ceviche.
The fish of the day ceviche is cooked briefly in lemon juice and finished with a Mediterranean dressing. Black risotto arrives with cuttlefish tentacles, herb butter and parmesan. Sea shells come as vongole, razor clams and mussels in white wine, garlic and parsley. Meat eaters can share the dry aged ribeye for two, served with triple cooked chips and Béarnaise. Dessert brings baklava with caramelised pistachio and burnt milk ice cream.
The street terrace is framed by greenery and stays private despite the busy waterfront. Upstairs, the first floor dining room keeps the summer heat at bay. The wine list draws on Dalmatian indigenous grapes such as Pošip, Grk and Plavac Mali, alongside a selection of foreign labels, especially champagne.
